I recently read a study from the World Economic Forum that stopped me in my tracks:
📉 84% of leaders report feeling underprepared for future disruptions.
📉 60% of board members believe their organizations are not ready for the next major event.
That’s startling—especially when you consider how much we’ve invested in leadership development, strategy, and team building over the last few years. I know so many incredible leaders who are deeply committed to their people and their businesses. But still… the fear is real. The uncertainty is real.
And too often, instead of stepping toward that fear, we step back.
Let me be clear: I understand how hard it is to lead right now. But this moment isn’t a time for retreat. It’s a time to disrupt ourselves first.
What do I mean by that? It’s not a complete restart. It’s about making intentional shifts—having the hard conversations we’ve been avoiding, putting our teams in a room to talk about strategic agility, and asking better questions about the future. It’s about small disruptions that build the muscle of resilience.
The world will keep changing. It will continue to disrupt us.
But if we can help our teams reframe disruption—if we can teach them that not all disruption is bad, that it’s not something to fear but something to learn from—we create the energy and mindset needed to thrive in uncertainty.
One of the biggest mindset shifts leaders need to make right now?
Realizing that your team isn’t expecting you to have all the answers. They’re expecting you to take the next right step.
They’re looking for perspective, for energy, for leadership that isn’t afraid to say, “I don’t have it all figured out—but I’m committed to figuring it out with you.”
Leadership today is not about creating certainty. It’s about creating energy. It’s about investing in your people, even when times are hard—especially when times are hard.
That might mean calling a strategy session when you’re not hitting budget. That might mean working with a coach or bringing in an accountability partner who can help you—and your team—see things from a different angle. Because let’s be honest, the opportunity isn’t usually sitting right in front of you. It’s hidden around a corner. You need someone who can help you find it.
At Keystone, one of the values we’re living fully into right now is Raw Authenticity. We’re having tough, uncomfortable conversations—with our clients and within our own team. Because this is what it takes. If we want to move forward through disruption, we need to stop pretending and start being real.
So here’s my challenge to you:
Ask yourself—what’s one investment I can make right now that will move us forward differently?
That investment might be:
- A strategy reset session to reframe your direction.
- Executive coaching to build clarity and courage.
- A partner to hold you accountable to the conversations you’re avoiding.
We’re halfway through the year. Now’s the time to be intentional about how you want to end the year—and who you want leading alongside you.
Let’s stop waiting for disruption to teach us the hard lessons. Let’s start building the muscle now.
